How to clean a Walbro carb

Cleaning the carburetor is key to keeping your engine running strong. A dirty carburetor robs you of power and puts your engine at risk.

Our engineers have developed what we feel is the best carburetor fuel system cleaner on the market today. Mike Patel was the lead engineer working on the development of the new carburetor cleaner.

Walbro wants to take the guesswork out of choosing a carburetor and fuel system cleaner. We know the critical components in our carburetors and fuel systems better than anyone. This product is specially formulated to clean while also protecting these components, especially parts like diaphragms, gaskets, and check valves.

We added a ball inside of the can to allow proper mixing of the cleaners and lubricants. Most carburetor cleaners contain only solvents. Walbro's new carb cleaner is a two-part formula containing both cleaning agents and lubricants.

The lubricants protect the moving parts, especially throttle shafts, and resist corrosion. We all know what increased ethanol is doing to our fuel systems.

The nozzle is also unique. It eliminates the need to keep a straw taped to the outside of the can. This unique two-way nozzle allows you to keep the straw down for a wide spray or flip it up for a direct stream, allowing you to spray a concentrated amount of cleaner onto a specific area of your fuel system.

I am surprised at the number of people using brake cleaner, electrical contact cleaner, mineral spirits, and even kerosene. Are these products safe to use on Walbro carburetors and fuel systems?

Brake and electrical cleaners can be nasty on rubber parts. They're just too aggressive and not recommended. Mineral spirits and kerosene are pretty useless, about the same as using gasoline, and they don't perform well on gum and varnish deposits.

I suggest you get rid of all that stuff and replace it with Walbro carb cleaner. Excellent cleaning, no more damaged parts, and a good coating of corrosion-resistant lubricant when you're done, all in one easy-to-use product.
