Blade changing and sharpening
To remove the blade from your EGO mower, begin by removing the battery and the safety key. Use gloves or a rag when handling the mower blade. A 9/16 in wrench and screwdriver will be all the tools you need.
Place the screwdriver in the fixing hole as a stabilizer and rotate the blade counterclockwise until it rests against the screwdriver.
Next, take your 9/16 in wrench and turn the blade bolt counterclockwise until the bolt comes completely off.
With the blade off, you can now set it in a vise, clamp it down tight, and file the edge of the blade. Be sure to use a fine-tooth file and file at the same angle as the cutting edge. Try to be even when filing down both edges of the blade. An easy way to do this is to count the filing strokes on each side.
When you're done, balance the blade on the end of a screwdriver to be sure that it's level. If one end drops down more than the other, file a little bit more off of the heavier side. An unbalanced blade can cause excessive vibration and is unsafe.
Under normal mowing conditions, sharpening a blade twice a mowing season is usually sufficient.
To reinstall the blade, be sure the battery and safety switch are removed from the mower. Place the inner flange, blade, washer, and bolt on the mower in the same order that you took it off.
The screwdriver goes back into the fixing hole, then rotate the blade clockwise until it rests against the screwdriver. Use your 9/16 in wrench to tighten the bolt by turning it clockwise.
