Walbro Tool Kit

Tools that are going to be from the old kit are the Walbro plug removal tool. It's a chisel shape that's intended to be driven into the Welch plug, pry it up, and remove it. This was in the old kit.

This is the original Walbro tool that's for installing the Welch plug. This is an older tool that was used to install the old-style check valves on our old carburetors. They left it in there because there are still a lot of those carburetors around, and this tool has been out there for 35 years.

It's the original Walbro gauge. It has all the old carburetors on it for adjusting the metering lever. Both of these work the same. Put these two on the flat and check the height of your metering lever, and make sure it's the right height depending on the model that's on the gauge.

So this is the old kit, 500-500. They replaced and upgraded it to the new kit. It has everything that was in the old kit, plus I'm going to show you all the new tools.

It starts out with the new gauge in it. This has all of the new carburetors listed on it, including the new spiral diaphragm.

It has the slide hammer that was in the old one, but they repurposed it, and I'll show you what that does later.

This tool is for the new carburetors that have the bathtub-type Welch plug. The old carburetors have this round Welch plug. There are a lot of new ones that have this bathtub style, so this tool is for installing those.

This is the new Walbro screwdriver. It's magnetic and reversible. Then they have this bit that they've developed that goes in this tool as a handle. It installs pretty easily with the screw that's in there.

So we're using this as a handle to hold this new bit for removing the check valve, and it's this check valve right here.

This is in about 90% of their carburetors. Anything that has a purge bulb like this, either on the carburetor or remote, is going to have this check valve in it.

On these carburetors, it's right there. On rotary valve carburetors like this, it's in this body right there. It's installed in the opposite direction.

They've encountered some issues with really high ethanol fuel, especially if the fuel is supposed to be E10 but is actually E15, E20, or E25. It can damage this check valve. They've also had instances where this check valve gets blown out by somebody blowing air from the other side, and it blows inside of the carburetor.

So they developed this tool to remove that check valve. The way it works is you line the bit up with the center of the check valve, turn it until you feel the check valve start to break loose, then continue to turn it while pulling on it a little bit, and it pops it right out. Now you can install a new check valve in that spot.

This is the check valve. It's pretty small. If you see the little black disc inside of it, it sets right in that same spot.

To install that, they've repurposed this tool. It was originally intended for removing a check valve out of some of our very old carburetors with this little notch. Now they're going to use it as a slide hammer. They put it on and slide hammer it down in.

The new tools include the removal tool in combination with the bathtub Welch plug installer, the slide hammer, the new screwdriver, and the gauge.

They also have this flashlight LED magnifier. They looked quite a while to find something that had about the magnification that they wanted, had an LED light, and has replaceable batteries.

So all of that comes in the new kit. The new kit part number will be 500-538.
