How to Start Stihl BG50

Starting the BG50 is very simple. First, place the on/off switch to the on or run position. Press the fuel pump bulb at least five times, even if it already appears to have fuel in it.

If the unit is cold or has not been run for a long time, place the choke lever in the closed or full choke position. If the unit has just recently been run, you would place the choke lever in the warm start position. Our unit has not been run recently, so we will place the lever in the full choke position.

Place your right hand on the handle and grip the throttle lever, holding it in the wide open position. Next, pull on the starter rope until you hear the engine try to start. Then move the choke lever to the warm start position.

Again, with the throttle being held in the wide open position, pull on the starter rope until the engine starts. Once the engine has started, move the choke to the open or run position.
