This video will show you how to replace the deck belt on this Troy-Bilt rider mower. Depending on your model, the instructions in this video may vary slightly. Always be sure to check your operator’s manual for detailed instructions.
Turn the mower off and make sure the engine is cool. Remove the ignition key, disconnect the spark plug ignition wire, and disconnect the red cable from the battery. Do not allow the wrench to come in contact with any metal.
Engage the parking brake. Be sure the PTO lever is disengaged. Put the deck height lever at its lowest position.
Remove the belt keepers from around the engine pulley. Remove the belt from the engine pulley.
Remove the quick link from the front of the mower deck. Remove the left and right hanger brackets.
Remove the PTO cable by removing the bow-tie clip. Remove the spring from the deck idler pulley bracket.
Put the deck height lever at its highest position. Turn the front wheels to the left, then slide the cutting deck out from the right side of the mower.
Remove the outer deck covers. Loosen the two idler pulleys. Pivot out the idler arm bracket and release the belt. Remove the belt.
Route the new deck belt.
Reassemble by following the previous directions in reverse order.
