Earlier this month American Honda Motor Co. Inc. issued a recall on 18,500 snow blowers sold through Honda Power Equipment dealers across the United States. Included in the recall are snow blower model and serial numbers: HS724 SZBE-1037913 through 1046577 HS928 SZAS-1151080 through 1169012 HS1132 SZBF-1018734 through 1025998 The recall involves replacement of the fuel tank joint and O-ring located under the fuel tank. Faults in these parts can cause fuel leaks and potential fires. Any one who owns one of the included snow blowers should contact their local Honda Power Equipment dealer.

Any one who owns a Stihl 361C (C-Q version) chainsaw should stop using it immediately and contact their local Stihl authorized dealer for a safety recall. The recall involves repair of the trigger which can stick and cause failure to decelerate after the operator releases the trigger. The recall is for 5,000 361C chainsaws sold in the United States and Canada. The number sold in Canada is reported to be 340. This is considered a serious recall since a chainsaw with a stuck trigger while running can present a risk of a laceration injury. This recall follows not long after the December 2010 recall of Stihl FS310 bike handled trimmers which involved the ignition module.

After attending the recent 2011 Briggs & Stratton Technical Update Seminar, we were impressed with some of the latest improvements to the Briggs & Stratton engine line. Among these are the innovative new Transportguard System which integrates the engine ignition shut off with the fuel shut off. This is a great solution to the age old problem experienced during transport of engines when the operator forgets to close the fuel valve and fuel continues to flow into the engine as a result of fuel movement in the float bowl.
