Champion Spark Plugs For Briggs and Stratton Engines
A Champion spark plug is an electrical device that fits into the cylinder head of an internal combustion Briggs and Stratton engine. The Champion spark plug will carry two electrodes separated by an air gap, across which the current from the ignition system discharges to form the spark for combustion. There are many different types and sizes of Champion spark plugs, which are designed for a number of different requirements.
Some of the most commonly used Champion spark plugs used on Briggs and Stratton engines are; RJ19LM, which most commonly replace Brigs and Stratton part numbers 802592s and 802595s and J19LM, which most commonly replaces Briggs and Stratton part number 492167s. A few more of the most commonly used Champion spark plugs used in Briggs and Stratton engines are: RC12YC, which most commonly replace Briggs and Stratton part numbers 491055 and 692051; and RC14YC, which most commonly replaces Briggs and Straton part number 496018s.
There are a few different sections that make up an entire Champon plug. From the tip of the plug you have the terminal, which runs all the way thru the Champion spark plug and comes out at the end of the threaded section of the plug. The terminal is covered at the top of the plug by the insulator or the “ceramic” piece. On the lower piece of the Champion plug the terminal is covered by the metal shell, followed by the threading. Inside the Champion spark plug you have the center electrode and on the very end of the plug you have the ground electrode or the “gap”. The ground electrode is the piece that stems from the very end of the threading . The gap or the ground electrode can often be set to far and this can cause the Briggs and Stratton engine to miss fire or not fire at all, this often can be fixed by knowing what the gap should be a by measuring the gap that is in the Champion plug that is on the Briggs and Stratton engine presently. To measure the gap in a Champion spark plug there is a special tool required, which you can now purchase at our online store.
The threaded section of the Champion spark plug and the attaching hole in the cylinder on the Briggs and Stratton engine are manufactured to meet certain established standards. The threaded portion of the Champion spark plug is actually known as the diameter, some of the most commonly used are:
10, 14, 18, mm and 7/8 and ½ inch.
The length of the thread, and the depth of the thread of the cylinder head of the Briggs and Stratton engine are also uniformed throughout. This is measured from gasket seat of plug to cylinder end of thread. There are four different reach plugs that are more commonly used; these being: 3/8, 7/16, ½, and ¾ inches.
